The contract / delivery gap
Most contract clauses are written by lawyers, signed by directors, and never seen by the delivery team. The clause that requires a monthly performance report, served by the 10th of each month with stipulated content, is a routine source of contract breach precisely because no one outside the contract team knows it exists.
How the obligations register fixes this
- Each clause that requires action is translated into one or more obligations.
- Each obligation has an owner, a cadence, an evidence requirement and a status.
- The register is reviewed monthly with the operations director, and exceptions are escalated.
- When the contract is amended, the register is amended — not just the contract document.
